Topeka Democratic Socialists of America

People Over Profits

We believe that our economy has never worked for us, the members of the working class. Instead, an extremely wealthy owning class has made millions by underpaying us and raising prices. We combat this by fighting for basic human rights, and the most important human right is your human life. That is why we believe in guaranteeing Healthcare, Housing, Food for All, Employment, and Higher Education for All.

Who We Are & What We Do

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.

What Is Democratic Socialism

Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.

Democracy and socialism go hand in hand. All over the world, wherever the idea of democracy has taken root, the vision of socialism has taken root as well—everywhere but in the United States. Because of this, many false ideas about socialism have developed in the US.
